Yoga Etiquette

OM Yoga Stuttgart is an Oasis for you and many others, a place to recharge and create space and time for yourself. To get the most out of your experience, here are a few things you can do to be fully present in your practice.

SILENT HOTROOM: Our Yoga Shala is a space for reflection, self-study, and focus, maintaining a quiet atmosphere. The moment you step foot into the Hotroom your Yoga practice has already begun. We practice silence before, during and after class. Please save your conversations for outside of the Hotroom.

CELLPHONE FREE ZONE: Unless you are on call for life or death!

MAT PLACEMENT: Make sure that you can see yourself in the front mirror and give your neighbours enough space to do the same. In a crowded class be kind and adjust your mat to make room for others as well. Is it your first class? Please place yourself in the 2nd or back rows to learn with ears (listen) and eyes (watch the first row). For more info on your first time click here.

BE ON TIME AND STAY IN THE HOTROOM, ON THE MAT: Our classes start on time. Therefore, please arrive at least 20 minutes before class starts to get settled. When you’ve placed your mat make a commitment to stay for the entire class. It’s okay to take a break and stay on your mat to calm your breath and mind. Be nice to yourself, notice your breath and when you feel better join in and finish strong! Make a commitment to stay in the moment and flow with the teacher’s instructions. We all share energy to create synergy in the Hotroom. Group energy can be magical and will lift you up!

STAY HYDRATED: Drink plenty of water throughout the day before you come to class. Drink as little as possible during practice and only during the little breaks between postures. If you can, try to refrain from drinking at all during a yoga class and watch how you increase your concentration by doing so. After class you can and should drink up to rehydrate. In the Hotroom no glass bottles please, unless they have a protective sleeve! Broken glass and bare feet don’t go well together.

HYGIENE & SAFETY:

  • Yoga is practiced barefoot. For hygiene reasons and comfort we ask you to take off shoes in the lobby and leave socks with your wardrobe before you enter the Hotroom.
  • Yoga sweat is good sweat and some of us sweat more than others. Please place a towel on your mat and whenever you notice that your body produced an entire lake, be mindful and clean it up to prevent slips/falls. Extra cleaning towels can be found in the Hotroom.
  • Shower hot or shower cold, but shower quick.
  • Shave at home.

We practice the Yoga, because it makes us feel happy, peaceful and alive. We practice the Yoga for our own benefit and the benefit of others. Take the valuable benefits from the Yoga practice into your everyday life and watch how miracles unfold within and outside of yourself. The love in me salutes the love in you.
