Yoga is the Sanskrit word meaning “union of the body and mind.” Yoga combines the physical postures or asanas with the mental conscious breathing and the spiritual connection with universal consciousness.
As Yoga continues its popularity and grows around the world, more and more research studies have been conducted and are showing the mental and physical benefits of this ancient practice. It is now clear that Yoga has many scientifically proven health benefits, both physical and mental, such as:
- encouraging relaxation
- increasing flexibility & strength
- regulating blood pressure, lowering heart rate
- toning & nurturing muscles
- increasing levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)* in the brain
